Insulin secretion in hyperlipoproteinemias

An oral glucose tolerance test was performed in hypertriglyceridemic patients and plasma glucose and insulin levels were measured. From this study it appeared that hypertriglyceridemia is an insulin resistant state. However, plasma insulin levels were not significantly related to triglyceride levels, suggesting that hyperinsulinemia per se is not the cause of the hypertriglyceridemia.
