Adiponectin and metabolic syndrome.

The critical role of adiponectin which was found by Dr. Matsuzawa’s group in the development of the Metabolic Syndrome was reviewed in this article. This adipocytokine has several biofunctions such as antidiabetic, antiatherosclerotic and anti-inflammatory functions. This review reported the link between adiponectin, visceral adipose tissue, insulin resistance and vascular diseases.
