Adiponectin, inflammation, and the expression of the metabolic syndrome in obese individuals: the impact of rapid weight loss through caloric restriction.
This study reported that obese patients with the Metabolic Syndrome were characterized by significantly lower adiponectin levels and higher TNF-alpha concentrations compared with equally obese patients not having the Metabolic Syndrome. After a weight loss period of 4-6 weeks, although marked reductions were observed for glucose, insulin, leptin and triglyceride levels, no significant changes were noted for adiponectin and TNF-alpha concentrations.
