Strong relationship between microalbuminuria and the metabolic syndrome - (17/08/06)
In a cross-sectional, controlled study on 6588 Korean adults, the prevalence of microalbuminuria was 4.2% in patients without metabolic syndrome compared with 14.4% in those with metabolic syndrome. The odds ratio of microalbuminuria in subjects with metabolic syndrome was 1.53 as compared with those without metabolic syndrome. Multivariate-adjusted regression analysis revealed a significantly graded relationship between the number of metabolic syndrome components and the prevalence of microalbuminuria: thus, for 1, 2, 3, and 4-5 components of metabolic syndrome the odds ratios for microalbuminuria were: 1.79; 2.35; 3.23 and 4.22 respectively.
