Metabolic syndrome and subclinical cardiovascular disease in black men and women: focus on left ventricular mass.

In a population of 1572 black women and men included in the ARIC study, left ventricular mass significantly increased with the number of metabolic syndrome components. Associations were similar across central adiposity. Hypertension, but also dyslipidemia and glucose intolerance contributed to the increase in LV mass.
