Ongoing Trial with Antihypertensive Agents

Trial - VALISH
(Valsartan in Elderly Isolated Systolic Hypertension)

Outcomes:
Composite cardiovascular events: 1) sudden death; 2) fatal or non-fatal stroke; 3) fatal or non-fatal myocardial infarction; 4) death due to heart failure; 5) other cardiovascular death; 6) unplanned hospitalization for cardiovascular disease; 7) renal disorder

Expected total enrollment:
3000 patients with stable seated systolic blood pressure >160 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure <90 mmHg at two visits within 2 to 4 weeks.

Comparisons:
Valsartan and target blood pressure <140 mmHg vs valsartan and target blood pressure <150 mmHg.

Design:
Randomized, open-label, active control, parallel assignment.

Trial - NAVIGATOR
(Prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease in patients with impaired glucose tolerance: rationale and design of the Nateglinide And Valsartan in Impaired Glucose Tolerance Outcomes Research (NAVIGATOR) Trial.)

Outcomes:
Time to have a cardiovascular or neurologic event, including: death from a cardiovascular event, heart attack, stroke, hospitalization for chest pain or heart failure, or procedure to open a blockage in an arterial blood vessel. Risk of developing diabetes.

Number of participants:
9518 patients with impaired glucose tolerance and age-dependent cardiovascular risk factors.

Comparisons:

Study Design:
Randomized, double-blind, active control, parallel assignment.
