(Study of the Effectiveness of Additional Reductions in Cholesterol and Homocysteine)

Outcomes:
Major vascular events.

Expected total enrollment:
12064 patients with prior myocardial infarction, statin therapy indication and no clear indication for folic acid.

Comparisons:
Intensive simvastatin (80mg) vs standard regiment (20mg), and folic acid/vitamin B12 vs placebo.

Design:
Randomized, double-blind, dose comparison, factorial assignment.

Ongoing Trial with Hypoglycaemic Agents - Prevention of Cardiovascular Events


Trial - ADDITION
(Anglo-Danish-Dutch Study of Intensive Treatment In People with Screen Detected Diabetes in Primary Care )

Outcomes:
Cardiovascular mortality; cardiovascular morbidity; MI (non fatal); stroke (non fatal); revascularization; amputations.

Expected Total Enrollment:
3000 subjects with no known diabetes mellitus.

Intervention:
Screening for type 2 diabetes and intensive treatment compared to standard treatment (intensive ADDITION protocol: includes structured lifestyle education, dietary modification, increased physical activity, and smoking cessation, and intensive treatment of blood glucose, blood pressure and lipids, and prophylactic aspiring with or without motivational interviewing, on mortality, macrovascular and microvascular disease).

Study Design:
Randomized, open label, active control, factorial assignment.
